Maria Accepts 2022 Democratic Nomination

With Rights Under Attack, Every Legislative Seat is Vital to Protecting Democracy

I'm honored and delighted to be the endorsed Democratic candidate to run for my third term representing the 64th District in the Connecticut General Assembly! Thank you all for your support - especially to Cornwall First Selectman Gordon Ridgway for his generous nomination speech and to delegates Mary Weber of Washington and Cindy Barrett of Goshen for seconding my nomination with such flair. Extra special thanks to my predecessor, former State Rep. Roberta Willis, for expertly chairing tonight's nominating convention, and to my campaign treasurer, Shelley Harms, for being the convention secretary.

Now the campaign will begin in earnest as we look to November, when I hope to see my Democratic colleagues elected to join me in Hartford to protect your rights, your health, our environment, our economy, and our democracy. There is certainly a lot to do!

If you couldn't make it to the convention, a video of my acceptance speech will be posted in the next day or so at ElectMariaHorn.com. And you can read the full text of my speech pasted below.

To summarize, I'm proud of what we've accomplished in the state and our district these past two very difficult years. We've come back strong from the worst of the pandemic. Of course, we need to keep respecting and supporting each other as the virus mutates and continues to be a threat. At the same time, I look forward to making progress on many other fronts to be sure our district, our state, and our country keep moving forward. I know I can count on your help.

Although I do not yet have a declared opponent to challenge my re-election, I will be campaigning vigorously for the principles I cherish and the honor to continue to represent you in the General Assembly. There will be plenty of opportunities for you to join me, at events like Saturday's rally on the Salisbury Green in support of reproductive rights (see below for details). We will also be knocking doors this summer to introduce me to the residents in the newest town in the 64th District - Washington - and in the parts of Goshen that used to be in the 63rd before redistricting. We are always looking for help. If you're interested, please email my amazing volunteer coordinator, Cindy Barrett at cbingoshen57@gmail.com or my terrific campaign manager, Melissa Cherniske at rothcherniske@gmail.com.

Warmly,
